Signs & Symptoms
Common signs of tooth grinding and TMJ issues include jaw tension or soreness, headaches, worn or fractured teeth, tooth sensitivity, and clicking or popping in the jaw joints. Some clients may also notice pain upon waking or difficulty chewing, which can affect daily comfort and overall wellbeing.
Professional Care Solutions
At Revive Dental Applecross, we offer a range of care options tailored to your needs. Custom mouthguards (night splints) help protect teeth from grinding and to relieve jaw discomfort, while targeted TMJ therapies — including muscle relaxants, relaxation exercises, and remedial massage — may help reduce discomfort and improve jaw function. Restorations including composite bonding, fillings, inlays, onlays and crowns are also available to repair wear and damage.
Supporting Your Smile at Home
Alongside professional care, we can provide personalised guidance to help reduce symptoms and protect your smile from home. This includes relaxation techniques, jaw exercises, and lifestyle strategies to prevent further damage. Our experienced team will work with you to develop a complete care plan that supports both your comfort and long-term health.
FAQS
-
How should I maintain and store my mouthguard or night splint?
To keep your mouthguard or night splint in good condition & ensure it lasts as long as possible:
- Keep it out of direct sunlight & away from heat
- Rinse or wash it with cold water after each use
- Store it on its mould to help maintain its shape
- Bring your mouthguard to your routine dental check-ups so we can assess its fit & condition
Custom mouthguards and night splints can often last between 1 - 5 years before they need to be replaced. If your appliance becomes worn, damaged or no longer fits comfortably, you may need to replace it sooner.
